Service Description

The assessment itself takes approximately 4 hours and a full report is written with two weeks. The assessment includes a review of background information from the child or young person, the parents and the school. The psychometric tests assess underlying ability (IQ), literacy skills and a range of cognitive processes. The report will include tests scores and an analysis of a child or young person's strengths as well as their weaknesses, plans for interventions or adjustments (including those required for exams) and personalised recommendations for a supportive classroom environment and teaching strategies. Every assessment begins with the views of what the child or young person wants to achieve. A full diagnostic report that has been completed at any age and which confirms a diagnosis, is suitable evidence for a Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) Application. The Disabled Students Allowance is a grant, it is not means tested and it is available to undergraduate and postgraduate students with a disability including dyslexia. If you are unsure whether you want to proceed with a full assessment then I can offer a pre-assessment session that costs £60. This provides an opportunity for some shorter psychometric tests as well as a detailed discussion with the parent and child or young person, before a decision is made about whether a full diagnostic assessment would be helpful.
